Colfax takes 13-0 win string into Spokane tourney

After stretching their undefeated season to 13 matches with a win Tuesday night at Lakeside, Colfax volleyball players will take a big reputation north Friday for two days of action in the big crossover tournament at Spokane.

The annual event draws teams from all over for four rounds of pool play and then eliminations among the respective pool play finishers.

Colfax will start in the O pool at Rogers High school against St. Maries at 7:30 p.m. Friday. They will return to Rogers Saturday and play Heritage of Vancouver at 9 a.m., and West Valley of Yakima at 11.

Pool winners will cross over to the title round at Shadle Park with second place finishers at Lewis & Clark and third place finsishers at Ferris.

Colfax extended their undefeated run Tuesday night when they defeated the Lakeside Eagles at Nine Mile in three games. That bumped the run to 13 straight matches after three- game wins over Liberty at Spangle Saturday and at Tekoa against the 1B champs last Thursday.

Colfax Tuesday defeated Lakeside 26-24 28-26 and 25-9 Tuesday.

"They played us pretty tough," Coach Sue Doering commented.

The Bulldogs took harrowing wins in the first two games and then blasted off in the last game with Amara Huber running up the lead early on seven straight serve points with two aces.

In the second game, the Eagles had a 24-21 lead but couldn't nail it down. They were on the brink again at 26-25, but Colfax ran three straight points for the game win.

Last Thursday against the Nighthawks, the Bulldogs ran into a battle in the first game with the defending 1B champs.

Coach Doering credited Nicole Sheer with linking key serving stints which vaulted the Bulldogs to early leads in the three-game win. Sheer went to the line in the first game with Colfax leading by a point. She served six straight to put the Bulldolgs on track.

In the third game the ‘hawks posted an early 6-5 edge, but Sheer turned it around with seven straight serve points. Match score for the Colfax win was 25-22, 25-17, 25-15.

Cassandra Mendoza hit 19 kills for the `hawks and Alexa Lindgren had 18 assists

At Spangle Saturday the Bullldogs defeated the Lancers with three decided game wins, 25-6 25-8 and 25-15 with Doering calling out bench crew.
