Achievements

John Henry celebrated 50 years at Colfax Security in Colfax! He has been a solid business person.

He has volunteered his time with the Planning Commission for the City for dozens of years.

He has been a member of Rotary Club serving in many capacities with that group for more years than I can guess.

He contributes to every kid that is trying to raise money for a school activity.

He could be out collecting money for the lymphoma society...

or doing other volunteer work for various organizations.

I don’t know how many have benefited from his helpful actions.

More than I have mentioned here.

Probably more than he can even remember.

I believe that few could match his achievements within and around the City of Colfax.

Norma Becker,

Utterly reprehensible

Holding the whole nation hostage just because the current version of the Republican Party is totally obsessed with damaging/destroying Obamacare is utterly reprehensible. It is a law of the Land validated by all three divisions of our government - Legislative, Executive and Judicial. At last count, the Republican controlled House has passed 45 anti-Obamacare bills that all knew were going nowhere facing a Democratically controlled Senate and a Democratic President ... what an obscene waste of legislative time and taxpayer dollars.

Ronald Reagan (or Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt for that matter) wouldn’t recognize the current Republican Party. In fact none of them would be able to pass the right wing fanatics’ “litmus tests,” and all of them would be labeled by these obsessive radicals as RINOs (Republican in name only ) as is their irreverent name they have given moderate and what used to be mainstream Republicans. Reagan, Roosevelt and Lincoln, some of the best, influential Presidents this country has ever had, are “RINOs” to this new, high-jacked version of the Republican Party.

In our 67 years on this earth we have never seen such acrimony and just plain and consistent nastiness from a major national political party. Their type of action, demanding citizens’ conforming and purity of a specific line of thought and vilification of any dissenters, has, unfortunately, been seen many times in the history of civilization.

The only good that may come of this mess caused by the current version of the Republican Party is that the whole Nation will now understand and become painfully and fully aware of what the “t-party” fanatics have done to the GOP and this wonderful country.

We are sure these extremists will pay dearly for their actions in the 2014 elections that are only one year away.

They apparently and thankfully didn’t learn a thing from the substantial losses they incurred in the 2012 general election.

These fanatics are even ignoring the findings of their party’s own studies and recommendations that they themselves commissioned.

Talk about shooting one’s own foot but, in this case, it is good.

Thank God that our nation’s founders demanded an effective democratic form of government which will prevail over fanaticism.

Richard and Jeri Stanton

Colfax
