Student project supports honor flight for Colton’s Jesse Davis

World War II veteran Jesse Davis of Colton traveled to Washington, D.C., Sept. 24 -25 on an Inland Northwest Honor Flight. The chartered flight departed from Spokane International Airport on Sept. 24 at 8 a.m. with 85 WWII veterans and one terminally ill Vietnam veteran. They returned to an enormous group of people, eager to welcome the veterans home.

The mission of an Inland Northwest Honor Flight is to transport Inland Northwest war veterans to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices.

In order to raise money to send a local veteran on an Inland Northwest Honor Flight, during the 2011-12 school year a committee of Colton High School students held hoop shoots and sold concessions at basketball games. One person donated a meal to raffle off and another donated a handmade wall hanging that was raffled off. Many made generous donations. As a result, students were able to present Inland Northwest Honor Flight a check for $1,755.

Jesse Davis will be honored during a Veterans Assembly at Colton High School Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. in the cafeteria. The assembly is being organized as part of Jenna Moser’s senior project.
