Rollover takes life of SJE grad

An off-road accident Sunday afternoon southwest of LaCrosse took the life of an Endicott resident, Amanda Drewer, 19, who was a passenger in a 1988 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Taylor Martin, 19, LaCrosse. Martin was seriously injured in the accident and taken by Med-Star helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, according to Sheriff Brett Myers.

Martin sustained multiple injuries which could possibly include a broken neck. He was reported to be in satisfactory condition at the hospital.

The sheriff’s report said deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers responded to a report of the one-vehicle accident about five miles south of LaCrosse. Martin and Drewer were believed to have been hunting in the area. The report said Martin drove off the roadway and onto a steep hillside. He lost control of the Suburban which rolled several times down the hillside.

Neither Martin nor Drewer were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Drewer, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was taken to Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. She was a member of this year’s graduating class of St. John-Endicott High School. She attended Colfax High School before transferring to SJE for her senior year.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Endicott Congregational Church.
