Teen victim had Colfax link

Josie Freier, 15, one of two University High School students who were fatally injured in an accident Saturday night in Spokane Valley, was the granddaughter of Bob and Suzanne Lonn of Wilbur. The Lonn family at one time operated a welding shop along N. Main in Colfax.

She was the daughter of Kristin and Rick Freier of Spokane Valley. Known as Jo Jo, the Freier girl and the other victim of the accident, McKenzie Mott, also 15, were friends and played soccer together.

The Spokesman Review Oct. 10 featured a picture of Rick Freier, and a call for donations to the Marines Toy for Tots in her memory. Freier, a long-time member of the Marine Corps, is now employed with the Spokane Valley Fire Dept.

According to the SR report, the two 15-year-olds were fatally injured when the car in which they were riding struck a tree.

A memorial service for the Freier girl was Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. in the Valley Fourth Memorial Church in Spokane Valley. The service for the other victim, McKenzie Mott, was Oct. 12.
