Museum benefit

set at Oakesdale

Oakesdale Historical Society, sponsor of the McCoy Valley Museum, will provide soup, bread and dessert, and bingo, Sunday, Oct. 20, at the museum in Oakesdale. Soup will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bingo will start at 2 p.m. All ages are invited.

Choral Society will

perform Encore

at St. Boniface

Palouse Choral Society will perform “Encore!” at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Uniontown Saturday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m.

St. Boniface Catholic Church in Uniontown was built in 1904 by German Catholic immigrants in the Baroque style of churches found in southern Germany and Austria. Such cathedrals were the sites of the original performances of many classical choral pieces composed by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and others. St. Boniface has been maintained in its original splendor with stunning stained glass windows, stenciling and stations of the cross.

Members will meet Friday, Oct. 18, at the home of Mae Schultz. Jane Aune will give the program.

Chapter AF met at the Courtyard Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. with Robyn Johnson hostess and Sherry Cox co-hostess. Thirteen members responded to roll call by telling the title of the last book read.

The program was presented by Sherry Cox on the life of George Ruedy as found in the Bunchgrass Historian. He was a barber in Colfax and later a pioneer nurseryman.

The next meeting will be Oct. 28 at Peace Lutheran Church with Queenie Leinweber hostess.

Sullivan, Ava Lynn Rose, born Oct. 1 at seven pounds, 13 ounces, to Tim and Laylah Sullivan of Albion. Paternal grandparents are Mike Sullivan of Merlo and Carole Pierson of Long Beach. Maternal grandparents are Steve and Nancy Bewick of Coulee City. The baby joins a sister, Nina, 1.

Holbrook, Raylon Michael, born Oct. 3 at eight pounds, two ounces, to Scott and Tracy Holbrook of Potlatch. Paternal grandparent is Lynn Griswold of Lewiston. Maternal grandparents are Mike and Roxanna Nagle of Potlatch. He joins a brother, Wheeler, 2.

Wegner, Gabriel Lawrence, born Oct. 4, at seven pounds, five ounces, to Nicole and Daniel Wegner of Moscow. Paternal grandparent is Stephanie Wegner of Pendleton. Maternal grandparents are Fred and Gerri Stephens of Lewiston.

Walker, Devin James, born Oct. 5, at eight pounds, 15 ounces, to Jennifer Ayres and Nick Walker of Clarkston. Paternal grandparents are Donna Miller of Riggins, Idaho, and Sam Walker of Rowland Heights, Calif. The baby joins sisters Marley, 4 and Amberlin, 11 months.

MUSIC

Local composer Lothar Kreck’s “Consideration V for Solo Violin” will premiere in a concert of collaborative and solo works for violin and viola at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, in WSU’s Bryan Hall as part of the Faculty Artist Series that supports the School of Music scholarship fund.

Faculty members Meredith Arksey, violin and viola, and Karen Savage, piano, will perform the beautiful “Capriccio” by Vieuxtemps, Bloch’s “Simchas Torah” and the famous “Sonata No. 3 in C minor for Violin and Piano” by Edvard Grieg.

—Art Songs of England will be performed at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in WSU’S Bryan Hall for the final fall concert in the faculty artist series.

Brian Carter, tenor, and Gerald Berthiaume, piano, will present music by Henry Purcell, Benjamin Britten, Gerald Finzi and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Tickets will be available in the lobby 30 minutes before the performance; they are free for WSU students with ID, $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors 60 and older and non-WSU students.

Nearly $10,000 in ticket proceeds from the series has been used to support WSU music scholarships.
