‘Make It With Wool’ participants

District 7 Make It With Wool contest participants gathered Oct. 5 in the Public Service Building at Colfax. The contest is coordinated by Helen Appel with assistance from Paula Baldree.

For 30 years, Helen has been hosting the contest for this multi-county region. Sidney Appel, Colfax, wearing her teal, window pane plaid skirt and jacket, placed first in the pre-teen division. Shelby Forgey, Anatone, in her purple dress with multi-colored trim and Elly Kunkel, Pullman, in her gray poncho with kangaroo pockets received honorable mentions in the division.

In the junior division, Sarah Appel, Colfax, placed first with her plum colored dress with pearl button trimmed shirring. Jody Forgey placed first in the adult division wearing a brown scoop necked dress accented with a long string of knotted pearls. Sarah and Jody qualified to represent the district at the state Make It with Wool Contest which will be in conjunction with the Washington State Sheep Producers convention in late October. Judges for the District 7 Make It With Wool contest were Dr. Carol Salusso and Kalina Elbing from the WSU Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles and Loveta Boyce, secretary of Washington Sheep Auxiliary from Moses Lake.
