Colton, L/W to face top Southeast teams

After sustaining a big loss Friday afternoon at Touchet, Colton Wildcats face another tough road test this week when they travel to Pasco to play Liberty Christian, the defending champions and the league leaders so far this year with a 3-0 mark.

The Patriots will host after keeping their SE string going with a 60-44 derby race win over Sunnyside Christian in a matchup of the two clubs on the western edge of the league lineup.

Touchet, now in the league’s number-two slot at 2-1, pegged a 38-14 win last week in the afternoon game. The hosts had a slim 14-8 lead at the half, extended it to 22-8 in the third quarter and added another 16 points in the last frame.

Colton’s lone score in the first half came on a 16-yard pass play from Jake Straughan to Dillon Frank. They scored again in the fourth quarter on another Straughan pass to Grant Kinzer for 10 yards. Touchet senior Cesar Velasquez had two of the Touchet TDs, one on a 40-yard escape in the second quarter and one on a 99-yard return after the Wildcats tuned the ball over with a fumble one yard short of scoring.

Elias Martinez also scored twice and hit Colton Gobel on a 33–yard pass play in the last quarter.

Straughan finished with a 29-42 passing night for 308 yards. Dalton Patchen, who caught a pass for Colton’s lone two-point conversion, had eight snags for 106 yards

Touchet, which is now rolling along in second place after dropping their league opener to Liberty Christian, will host the LaCrosse/ Washtucna Tigercats.

Friday at Washtucna, Pomeroy scored three TDs in the first half with Jackson Hall scoring the first two TD runs on breakout runs of 38 and 36 yards.

The Tigercats stopped another Pirate drive at the end of the half and put together a blitz drive which saw Stephen Erickson score on a nine-yard run with 32 seconds left in the half. Erickson also ran for the two points.

LaCrosse/Washtucna played with QB Joey Guske on the sidelines.

Pomeroy came out and scored four unanswered TDs in the second half.
