Serving Whitman County since 1877
State Rep. Susan Fagan escorted a special guest through the ninth district Oct. 24 and made a stop for lunch at the Top Notch in Colfax.
Rep. Ross Hunter, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, accompanied Fagan through the ninth district on a tour of area schools. Hunter represents the 48th district which serves parts of Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland.
By the time they reached Colfax, they had visited with teachers, principals and superintendents in three school districts.
“I can go from one end of my district to the other in 10 to 15 minutes,” Hunter said. “Today, we’ve been driving and driving and I still haven’t seen the whole district.”
That afternoon, the legislators met with 10 school superintendents at Colfax.
Fagan said school funding is important to her, and she wanted Hunter to see the school districts for himself.
“I wanted to see the difference between Bellevue and here,” Hunter said. “I’m happy to see fewer kids in a classroom here and I’d be happy if Bellevue had fewer students. I’m lucky if I see 20 kids in one class.”
“It’s very important as a budget chair to do policies that work for the whole state,” Hunter said.
“I feel confident about this visit,” said Fagan, a Pullman Republican who was elected in 2009.
