Kahlotus to host 600 students in JH fest

Kahlotus will host the Southeast Washington junior high mass band and choir festival in Braddock Gymnasium, Tuesday, Nov. 5, with 600 students expected from Asotin, Clarkston, Colfax, Colton, Dayton, Garfield/Palouse, Kahlotus, LaCrosse, Oakesdale, Pullman, Rosalia, St. John/Endicott, Tekoa, Touchet, Waitsburg and Washtucna.

The festival will culminate with a concert open to the public at 6:30 p.m. Guest conductors will be Kathy Mancinelli from Columbia Basin College for the choir and Lee Shook, formerly of Gonzaga/ Whitworth for the band. Shook has written “Dixieland Jam” especially for the festival. Admission for the concert will be $10 for families, $4 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, and preschoolers free.

A Veteran’s Day program will be at Kahlotus High School at 10:00 a.m. in Braddock Gymnasium, and Washtucna High School at 1 p.m. in the gym. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Tickets are on sale for three Madrigal dinner performances in December put on by music students from Kahlotus, LaCrosse and Washtucna. The setting is 15th century England.

The tickets are $12 and must be pre-purchased before Wednesday, Nov. 27. The performances are geared toward school age children and older.

Performance dates are at LaCrosse, Dec. 2, 6:30 p.m .; Kahlotus, Dec. 4, 6:30 p.m .; Washtucna, Dec. 10, 6:30 p.m.
