Jury in 2011 collision trial unable to reach a verdict

Judge William Acey declared a mistrial just after noon Friday after the jury in the Richard Lee-Waddell trial reported they were unable to reach a unanimous decision. When polled by Judge Acey, each juror said they didn’t believe the panel could reach a verdict in a reasonable period of time and were hopelessly deadlocked.

The trial involved two charges of vehicular assault filed against Lee-Waddell after investigation of a Sept. 26, 2011, two car accident north of the fairground. Lee-Waddell was the driver of a car which collided with a sheriff’s patrol car driven by Sgt. Jody Hamilton Young....
