Colfax volleyball players defeated Northwest Christian and Davenport Saturday at St. George’s to win the district tournament and the top slot for this week's regional round at Chiawana High School in Pasco.
The Bulldogs defeated Davenport 25-15, 25-19 and 25-8 in the title match. They defeated Northwest Christian 25-6, 25-10 and 25-16 in the semifinal round.
Colfax will face Reardan, number-five finisher out of the NE, in the first round of the regional which features eight teams in NE-SE matchups that will advance five teams to the state tournament in Yakima next week.
Tri-Cities Prep tops the SE entrants at this week's regional. Asotin and Dayton will be the other teams in the action from the SE loop.
Colfax expects to play the first round Saturday at Chiawana at about 10:45.
Last Saturday's two district wins at St. Georges finished a run of nine wins over NE foes leading up the regionals.
The title round with Davenport Saturday afternoon was a rematch of last Thursday's round when the two teams collided with undefeated league strings.
Davenport Saturday advanced to the title round after taking a tough battle over LRS in the other semi round.
Colfax Coach Sue Doering noted Kindra Kneale started the Bulldogs with five straight points at the service line, and Colfax took the lead for most on the way.
In the second game the Gorillas kept pace with the Bulldogs up to a 14-14 tie. Kori Goodwin then hit three serve points and Nicole Sheer hit a run of five on the way to the 25-19 win in the middle game.
Amara Huber, who hit 48-48 serving for the two-match stint, hit 21-21 against the Gorillas.
Scout Cai, who was on the sick list at the end of the league run, booked six digs against the Gorillas with five of them in the third game.
In the semi round Colfax went up against the same NWC club which they faced in their last home match last week.
Doering noted Huber started the semi win with a run of 15 straight points. Huber also hit six kills against the Crusaders.
The Bulldog coach also credited Cassie Vorderbrueggen with doing a solid job in the back court.
"Northwest Christian was trying to hit our corners, and she scrambled to prevent that," Doering said.
Nicole Sheer had a run of points in the second game and hit four aces to break it open.
