Serving Whitman County since 1877
The farmland sold by auction Sept. 18 was purchased by Dennis Raugust of Spangle, president of Boulder Creek, Inc. The sale record was filed in a transfer tax affidavit Nov. 15 in the county treasurer’s office.
The auction attracted more than 25 bidders. The 15 parcels including agriculture land and buildings sold for $4,026,000, according to the treasurer’s records.
The land was sold by Susan L. Ragon, personal representative of C. Maravene Ragon, and Michael D. Ragon and Karen L. Ostlund, Spokane.
C.D. “Butch” Booker of Kincaid Real Estate in Colfax was the main auctioneer for the sale at the Palouse Empire Fairground’s Community Building. Average price figured out to be $2,800 per acre for the cropland and buildings.
The land included about 1,450 acres of Whitman County farmland on two separate locations north of Colfax on Imler Road and Ragon Road near Steptoe Butte.
Just after the auction, Booker said he believed it was the largest auction price ever in Whitman County.
