The estimated cost to insure a skate park in Palouse has been estimated at $100 per year. Last week’s Gazette article incorrectly listed the annual cost estimate at $100 per month.
“I’m personally concerned,” said council member Connie Newman. “We don’t want to give the impression that the council had approved a location for a skate park knowing it would cost $1,200 per year in insurance.”
Skate park effort organizer Aaron Flansburg indicated that what he has been told about the matter has been consistent.
“It’s been assured and reassured by the city’s insurance carrier that the maximum increase to the city’s insurance would be $100 per year,” he said.
The Palouse City Council approved a spot for the proposed skate park at its Nov. 19 meeting, with contingencies. The site is across from Hayton Greene Park next to the sewer plant.
If the contingencies are met, Flansburg said he would expect to begin construction sometime next spring.
The skate park group now has $20,497 in the bank, including an added $14,297 this month from their work at the firehouse for Haunted Palouse.
