Garfield’s McCown books 2-vote win in final election count

Whitman County’s final election results on Monday revealed that the neck-in-neck race for Garfield mayor was won by Ray McCown just two votes ahead of challenger Larry Hunt.

McCown received 110 votes in the final count and Hunt had 108.

David Jones won the Garfield Town Council seat number four with 117 votes versus Chad Hawkins with 89 votes.

In the LaCrosse Town Council race for position three, Roger Downing received 69 votes defeating Mary Bertrand who had 59.

Dennis Palmer soundly defeated Al Evans for Oakesdale Town Mayor with 121 votes versus 49 votes.

Palouse City Council seat number one was narrowly carried by Doreen Hanson with 157 votes versus the late Alison Webb with 148 votes.

For Palouse Council seat number four, Senja Estes handily won with 194 votes versus Brad Pearce with 114 votes.

For Pullman City Council position two for Ward 2, Fritz Hughes received 418 votes with Zachary Young getting only 99 votes.

Eileen (Mac) Macoll received 1,855 votes to take the Pullman Council 6 position against her opponent Marcus Crossler who received 1,169 votes.

Alan (Al) Sorenson received 1,319 votes to take Pullman Council 7 ward 1, defeating John Nugent who received 598 votes.

In the race for Rosalia Town Council Position 3, Frank W. Martin won with 85 votes against challenger Ronald Hilfiker with 63 votes.

In the Tekoa School District Director District 5 position Shane Monroy won the seat with 156 votes versus Nicole Lehn with 84 votes.

St. John School District voters also overwhelmingly supported the district’s proposition to upgrade the school with more than 67 percent approval.
