Colfax girls drop Eagles, bow to LaSalle at dome

Colfax girls started the winter’s basketball campaign with a split over the weekend.

They rolled past an experienced St. John/Endicott team 62-30 Friday night on the home court and then sustained a 20-point defeat when they went up against LaSalle of Union Gap at the SunDome. The Bulldogs graduated three seniors off the team which rolled out a 23-6 record last year and came within a win of the final eight show at Spokane.

Grads included Rachel Robinson, Amelie Bruya and Bekah Kraut. Robinson was a power player for Colfax over the last two years and Bruya had the ability to derail opponents with her shooting skills.

Colfax has two seniors back this year in Nicole Sheer and Bailey Mackleit. Sheer tops the team at 5-11.

Friday at Colfax the crew went up against an experienced St. John/Endicott team led by Coach Marv Schmick and four seniors.

Sheer topped the Colfax scoring with 12 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Junior Andra Hamilton and sophomore Scout Cai each hit 10.

Top scorer for the Eagles was senior guard Sami Bailey who hit 10.

Friday at the SunDome tourney in Yakima, the Bulldogs were ousted by LaSalle of Union Gap 55-35. The locals rapped Colfax 21-5 in the first quarter.

Colfax battled back to erase seven points of the gap in the second quarter but faded in the second half.

Amara Huber, a 5-9 junior, led Colfax with 15 points at the dome and Sheer hit 12.

Colfax will travel to Davenport Friday for the start of league action against a Gorilla team expected to include, like Colfax, many of the top players from Davenport’s volleyball season.
