County basketball gets underway

The 2013-14 1B boys and girls basketball seasons are underway around the county.

Non-league games began in November with some teams starting off after Thanksgiving.

League action starts next weekend for some teams, including Gar-Pal vs. Rosalia Dec. 20.

What follows is a roundup of opening games for the boys and girls, beginning with the boys.

Gar-Pal 66,

Valley Christian 45

The Vikings forced 21 turnovers as Tyler Thurman scored 23 points and Jesse Lopez had 22 to led Gar-Pal to 2-0 on the season Dec. 7. Matt Holbrook had five steals in the game.

Liberty 77,

Rosalia 38

The Spartans played at home for their first basketball game of the season and went down by a wide margin. Match Burnham led Liberty with 30 points while Ryan Maley scored 10 for Rosalia.

GIRLS TEAMS

Tekoa-Oakesdale 47, Asotin 42 (OT)

Trailing by 11 in the fourth quarter at home Tuesday night, the Nighthawk girls came back to push the game into overtime.

Mattie Jo Johnson led T.O. with 18 points while Olivia Pakootas had eight.

Asotin fouled 30 times in the game with three players fouling out.

Gar-Pal 52, Valley Christian 14

The Vikings went to 1-1 on the season with a non-league win over Valley Christian Dec. 7. Taylor Redman led the team with 28 points while Cassie Martin had seven.

Rosalia 39,

Liberty 32

Mackenzie Reddish scored 17 points and Stacey Carrothers had 11 as the Rosalia girls opened their season with a win Dec. 7.

Colton 62, Grangeville 31

The Colton Wildcat girls opened their 2013-14 season with a non-league win over Grangeville Dec. 3. A 16-0 run in the second quarter opened up the game, leading to a 23-point Colton lead at halftime.

Jenna Moser led the team with 19 points while Zoe Moser added 15 and Savannah Chadwick had 10.

Potlatch 39,

Gar-Pal 30

Taylor Redman scored 15 points to lead the Vikings in a loss Dec. 3.

Potlatch’s Ashli Woodin scored nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Javelin-16. Brown 119-6, (153-3).

Long jump-6. Fulfs 18-3, 19. Douglas Wall 15-10 (19-9).

High jump-12. Tim Cornelius 5-0 (6-2).

Pole vault: 1. Skylar Simonson 11-0, 8. Sam Daily 9-6, 14.Reece Sanders 7-0.

Triple Jump-5.Fulfs 37-5.0( 41-11.)

100-Hurdles-4. Bailey Mackleit 17.57 ,16. Holly Rimbey 21.85, (16.94).

300 hurdles-2.Mackleit 51.7, (50.25).

4 x 100 relay-3. Amelie Bruya, Mackleit, Sheer, S.Cai 51.47, (51.13).

4 x 200 relay-3.Bruya, Mackleit, Sheer, Cai 1:49.39, (1:47.92).

Shot put-1.Nicole Sheer 34-2.5

Discus- 1 Taylor Cai 122-6, 5.Sheer 95-9

High jump-1.Scout Cai 5-2.

Javelin-4. Taylor Cai 91-3, 14. Cacey Hall 68-11, (128-5).

Pole vault: 2. Scout Cai 8-6, 9.Hall 6 -6 (9-7).
