LaCrosse students attend civic theater production

LaCrosse, Kahlotus and Washtunca seventh and eighth grade students recently performed in “A Knight’s Tale” in Madrigal Dinners at all three schools. The students served dinner in medieval costumes, sang, played recorders and lit the flaming dessert. Performances were under the direction by Mary Chastain, music teacher from LaCrosse, and Lora Hille, music teacher in Kahlotus and Washtucna.

Julie Brockel, Leanne Bafus, Jen and Dustin Broeckel, Blake and Austin Jones, Trey and Wendy Fleming, Katy McKay and Kathy Wogman, Gunnar Aune and Gen McGregor attended the Pullman Civic Theater production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever Sunday, Dec. 15.

The Student of Character assembly for November last Wednesday opened with the students making posters for the canned food drive they will start next Monday. Wayne Miller, representing the LaCrosse food bank, judged the posters and selected the winning poster from the Black Widow group.

Next, Zoe Bailey, Gen McGregor and Katy McKay received the academic improvement awards for improving their grades on the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Ty Harder received the attitude and effort award. Ty Pierson received the elementary self-control award, and Jazlynn Webb received the secondary self-control award.

Students who received character recognition for November’s trait of self-control were Kindergarten - 100%-Benjamin Hansen, Olivia McGregor, Grace Morris and Ty Pierson; Mac I – 90%- Ben Bailey, Avery Fleming, Julia Guske, Logan Henry, Landen Miller, Quincy Morris, Ellie Pierson, McKenzie Stanley, Emily Thompson; Mac II – 90%-Abree Aune, Alex Binks, Tanner Fleming, Lillian McGregor, Kaelea Reeves, Wyatt Schwartz, Austin Stanley, Nick Webb, Emily Wright; Fifth Grade – 100%-Zoe Bailey, Dustin Broeckel, Ty Harder, Austin Jones, Genevieve McGregor, Katy McKay; Sixth Grade – 80%-Gunnar Aune, Trey Fleming, Blake Jones, Lauren Stubbs; Seventh Grade - 20%-Alynn Harder; Eighth Grade – 75%-Braden Miller, Mashayla Miller-Morris, Tim Reeves; Freshman – 40% Kaleb Ellis, Terrell Webb; Sophomores – 33%-Jessica Guske, Jazlynn Webb; Juniors – 43%-David Alguea, Cole Evans, Seung BumSeo; Seniors – 67% Graham BeDell, Stephen Erickson, Joey Guske, Lindsey Miller, Riley Roberts, Darcy Stamper.

Miller explained how and why the food pantry works in LaCrosse. Then the coat drive was explained with some help from Austin Jones trying to wear as many coats as possible.

This assembly ended with the ASB officers explaining the December trait of respect with their rendition of the Aretha Franklin song by the same name.

The elementary students received their tokens for self-control Friday morning. The fifth graders taught them a respect song and explained the upcoming Book Bash reading contest that all students in preschool through fifth grade can participate in from Dec. 14 until Jan. 17. All students who read the amount of minutes assigned to their grade level will earn a free t-shirt designed by participating fifth graders. Students who read 600 minutes or more will also earn a free pass to Silverwood.

Saturday evening 42 participated in the pool tournament at Butch’s Pastime Tavern. Milt Aldrich and partner Dan came in third, Danny Hopkins and Dana Meserve placed second and the first place finishers were Buster and Adam Roberts.

Owner Butch Thomas said he appreciates donations in order to get new covers for the pool tables.
