Gar-Pal dismisses Rosalia, 68-37

While the Colton bus was seen going north, then south on Highway 195 for a canceled game at Liberty Christian, the Rosalia bus pressed on to Palouse in the falling snow Friday night.

Inside the Vikings’ gym, a matchup between the Spartans and Gar-Pal suggested just how good the home team may be.

After a contested first quarter, Gar-Pal (7-0) took control on a big night for Tyler Thurman, who scored 25 points while Matt Holbrook had 15 and Jesse Lopez 11.

For Rosalia (1-3), Craig Nelson led with 15 points while Ryan Maley added 11.

The game began with the Spartans handling the Gar-Pal press but then stalling in the half court.

After Craig Nelson missed a jump shot from the top of the key, Rosalia coach Pat Brown called out his displeasure.

"Come on, let’s do it, run the offense!" he yelled.

Moments later, Gar-Pal point guard Matt Holbrook pulled up for an eight-foot jump shot and a 24-12 lead.

Holbrook downed another shot on the next possession, from top of the key before Thurman found a lane under the Rosalia basket for 28-12.

The Spartans’ Maley later hit a three-pointer to keep it 30-17 going into halftime.

Early in the third quarter, Maley (No. 22) hit two more three-pointers to put his team within 14 points.

Gar-Pal’s Lopez then hit a backspin-three-pointer from the top of the key to push the lead back to 17.

"Where’s 22?! Where’s 22?" yelled Gar-Pal coach Tim Coles to his team running back up the floor.

But it didn’t matter, because Coles had his own 22 – Thurman, who quickly drove for another lay-in, then scored on a fastbreak. Holbrook added a three-pointer for 55-27 before Thurman appended that with a fly-wheel of a move under the basket.

At the end, Gar-Pal’s Matt Dymkoski hit a three-pointer for the last word, 68-37.

Touchet 54, LaCrosse-Washtucna 40

Darcy Stamper led the Tigercats (2-2) with 19 points in the loss while Joey Guske had eight. Cesar Rincon led Touchet scorers with 14 points.

Pomeroy 45,

Colton 37

Riley Bott led Pomeroy with 11 points while Bryan McGreevy had 10 as the Pirates held off Colton in a game in which senior post player Dalton Patchen returned from a football injury. Patchen scored 11 points in the loss while Carter Dahmen also scored 11.

The game began with Colton holding Pomeroy without a point in the first quarter.

Trailing 12-0, the Pirates (7-0) came back to within five points by the start of the fourth quarter. From there, they outscored Colton 20-7 to take the game.

The Wildcats remain without senior guard Jake Straughan, who is expected to return in January from a football injury.

Rosalia 89, St. John-Endicott 53

Craig Nelson scored 37 points to lead the Spartans in their first win of the season while Clay Shelton had 15 and Ryan Maley 13.

Robert Staples led the Eagles (0-5) with 18 points on the night while Adam Blakely had 16.
