poverty study
League of Women Voters of Pullman will undertake a local poverty study as part the organization’s national program. Residents interested in the local study can attend a meeting Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hecht Room at Neill Library.
The meeting will focus on organization of the study. There will be a social period from 6:30 to 7 p.m. The meeting will begin with a quick update on the Pullman School’s construction, followed by program planning and a discussion of the upcoming poverty study. All are welcome to attend.
Dahmen exhibit
will open Sunday
Opening reception for an exhibit by Robin Harvey, a realistic artist from Asotin, will be on Sunday, Jan. 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. The exhibit will continue through January 26. Robin works in acrylic, graphite, oil, pastel, scratchboard and watercolor. A member of the Snake River Showcase, her work has won many awards including Top of Class, Best of Show and the People’s Choice Award. Portrait work has a very special place in her heart along with still life and landscapes.
Robin has also drafted house plans, worked as a floral designer, operated a mural business and worked with Pullman Police as a certified composite artist.
After devoting most of her married life to raising children, Robin took a graphite portrait class in 1994 that rekindled her high school passion for portrait work. Within a year she was asked to teach the class. She has taught art to students at Spokane Valley Christian Elementary, special education students at Asotin High School, adults at Spokane Art Supply and McCoy’s Craft Store in Spokane.
Clubs & Youth Groups
Rosalia Garden Club
Members Dec. 18 filled cheer baskets and delivered 50 of them to the surrounding communities for people who have been ill, had a death in the family or are alone at this time of the year. This annual tradition was started more than 50 years ago with the Alpha Club and continues today with garden club members. Others that contributed to the baskets were Gifted Granny’s Thrift Shop, Karen Rockness, Kathy Buchholtz and Carolyn Bliesner.
Mary Ann Bowman continues to head the project.
