Bulldogs tie for fourth at Pomeroy tournament

Colfax wrestlers Saturday finished in a tie for fourth place at the Pomeroy Christmas tournament with 106 team points.

Branden Arneson booked the lone win for the Bulldogs with a 2-0 run in the 170 class.

Reggie Jones at 145, Evan Lord at 220 and Nick McAdams at 285 all placed third. Jones and Lord finished with 3-1 marks and McAdams finished at 2-1.

Trapper Askins of Garfield-Palouse took first in the 126 class with a first round pin in the finals, and Kevin Knauff of the Vikings placed second.

Kittitas wrestlers won the team honor with 159 points. Joseph, Ore., was second with 136.5 and Wahkiakum was third with 107. Host Pomeroy tied the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs also competed Friday in the Pomeroy prelims.

Last Monday, Dec. 23, the Bulldogs competed at the 17 team Central Valley Tri-County meet. Jones placed second for the lone medal win after pegging a 3-1 record with a loss to Josh Abel of CV 3-8 in the title round.

Pomeroy Christmas Tourney:

132 - Isaac Cook - 1-3 Loss - 6th; 145 - Reggie Jones - 3-1 3rd Place. Beat Johan Hernandez of Pateros, score 7 to 2; 170 - Branden Arneson - 2 - 0 Loss - 1st Place. Beat Taylor Lewis of Pomeroy, score 7 to 5; 182 - Brian DeYoung - 2 -2 - 4th Place. Lost to Nate Lothren of Wahkiakum by pin in the first round. Brian DeYoung received best sportsmanship award for his display of sportsmanship while competing against a wrestler from Waitsburg/Prescott. Brian won the match 13 to 12.

220 - Evan Lord - 3-1 - 3rd Place. Beat Matt Vercoe of Lind/Ritzville by a pin in the first round; 285 - Nick McAdams - 2 -1 - 3rd Place. Beat Lane Hawk of Lind/Ritzville by a pin in the first round. Nick had lost to Lane Hawk on Friday night by a pin in the first round.

Garfield/Palouse;

113 - Joey Rogers - 6th place.

126 - Trapper Askins - 1st place. Pinned Rama Rudolph of Tri-Cities Prep in the first round of the finals.

160 - Kevin Knauff - 2nd place. Kevin lost to Jared Wilcox of Joseph, Ore., in the finals by a score of 3 to 1. Kevin had beat Jared Friday night by a score of 7-4. Jared received outstanding wrestler award of the tournament.
