Serving Whitman County since 1877
Amanda Tobin, 24, Lewiston, was sentenced Tuesday, Dec. 31, to a month in jail after she entered a plea of guilty to assaulting a corrections officer in the Whitman County Jail in October of 2012.
Tobin had been sought after she failed to appear for trial last June. She had been released on $10,000 bail after she initially failed to appear for a pre-trail hearing last January.
Tobin appeared in court March 20 and entered a not guilty plea to the charge of custodial assault. Her trial date on the charge had been set for June 17.
The deputies’ report on the charge alleged Tobin assaulted a jailer Oct. 13, 2012, after she requested release from the jail to attend a class. She contended her probation officer had agreed to allow the release.
She had been placed in the jail that day on a three-day commitment order from the court. The report said Tobin at one point attempted to walk out of the jail and attempted to hit the jailer in the ensuing struggle.
She was sentenced by Court Commissioner Gary Libey.
