Colfax and Northwest Christian girls battled Friday for the NE top spot at Colfax with the Crusaders escaping with a dramatic 66-65 win to claim the top slot in the league race.
The Bulldogs bounced back to form with a win Saturday over Lakeside and returned home Tuesday to log a solid league win over the Liberty Lancers.
Friday at Colfax the NWC girls kept their win string alive on the shooting skills of Rachel Bozlee who canned four three-point shots.
The two teams exchanged leads during the first half with the Bulldogs getting a 38-37 edge at the break.
The Crusaders sustained a setback when veteran Treasure Farmer, who had led the Crusaders in the first half, had to be taken out after she hit the court.
Bozlee came right back and dropped one of her three pointers, which was answered by the Bulldogs’ Andra Hamilton.
Colfax had a 55-49 lead with 6:40 left, but NWC tied it two minutes later with three points from Courtney Gray who was fouled while shooting.
After a foul shooting sequence, Colfax missed a series of five shots on one possession. That was followed by another threebie by Bozlee to put NWC up 64-60.
Nicole Sheer hit a three with .9 seconds left but the Bulldogs finished one point short.
Bozlee finished with 20 points.
The Crusader girls Saturday hosted Liberty and moved their season string to 11-0 with a 68-40 win.
Colfax regrouped Saturday for a trip to Nine Mile where they downed the Lakeside Eagles 39-32 in a non-league game.
The loss was the first for the Eagles who had rolled up eight wins before hosting Colfax. Lakeside now plays in the NE-A league.
Nicole Sheer hit 14 points against the Eagles and was credited with 12 boards and seven steals.
Huber also pulled down 12 boards and hit 10 points.
Colfax posted a 22-21 lead at the half and then bombed the Eagles 12-4 in the third quarter to take control of the game.
Tuesday on the home court, Bulldog girls out-paced Liberty to advance to 5-1 in the league race. They cracked a 42-22 lead in the third quarter with Nicole Sheer again leading the card with 19 points. Sheer was also had seven of the 41 Bulldog rebounds.Colfax Coach Corey Baerlocher keyed the defense to stifle Liberty’s Christine Denny who still managed to lead the Lancers with 18 points.
