Unbeaten Colton runs unbeaten Nighthawk girls

It began physically, with bodies hitting the floor. Or was that the sound of cheerleaders stomping their feet?

Either way, there were no fouls called early in the Southeast 1B girls’ game between Colton and Tekoa-Oakesdale Friday night.

All the while, the undefeated Wildcats showed the undefeated Nighthawks who probably wouldn’t be after the game was over.

Slowly getting the ball to fall into the basket, Colton opened up a lead early, capped off by a three-pointer from Zoe Moser to make it 15-1 with 3:29 left in the first quarter.

"Wildcat power! Wildcat power!"

That was definitely the cheerleaders, and Colton’s Jenna Moser began scoring all over the floor. Then Savannah Chadwick hit a three-pointer to make it 22-2 with 1:26 left in the half.

Tekoa-Oakesdale’s unbeaten status ended at six games while five-time defending state champion Colton increased their record to 6-0, 3-0 in league.

Jenna Moser led Colton with 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals while Zoe Moser added 14 points and Savannah Chadwick 10.

Jacey Johnson and Maddie Jo Johnson each scored five points to lead the Tekoa/Oakesdale scoring.

Saturday at Rosalia, the Wildcats rolled out another strong first quarter with a 21-6 lead over the Spartans on the way to a 75-21 win. That stretched their string to 25 wins dating back to last year’s lone loss to Kamiah.

At Garfield Saturday, Tekoa/Oakesdale was led by Kim Groom who hit 13 as the Nighthawks went down the roster against the Vikings.

St. John/Endicott extended their league string to 5-0 with a 42-27 win over Liberty Christian on the road Friday night and a 62-36 win over Touchet Saturday at St. John.

Emily Jones hit 17 against the Patriots Friday, and Abby Goorfield dropped 16 against the Indians on the home boards Saturday.

Garfield/Palouse sustained a 30-43 loss to the Indians at Touchet Friday night.

Rosalia Friday traveled to Washtucna where they dropped the Tigercats 46-23 with Mackenzie Reddish hitting 16 points
