Colton girls keep rolling, ‘hawks maintain pursuit

The Colton girls continued to mow through the SE league with three big wins over the week while Tekoa/Oakesdale added two wins to top the league chase behind the Wildcats. Colton is now rolling on a 11-0 overall record with a 7-0 on top the SE league after at 66-9 crunch over the Garfield/Palouse Vikings in the Tuesday round.

At St. John Saturday night, the Wildcats dropped the Eagles 71-24 with Jenna Moser and Zoe Moser each hitting 22. The Wildcats dropped the hammer in the third quarter when they ripped a 27-6 edge. Gracie Dickerson and Jordyn Lowe each hit seven to lead the Eagles.

Colton rolled to St. John Saturday after dropping LaCrosse/Washtucna/ Kahlotus 66-12 in the Friday league round at LaCrosse.

Tekoa/Oakesdale, which was derailed by the Wildcats last week, staked out the number-two league slot with a 40-25 win over the St. John/Endicott Eagles at Tekoa Saturday. Mattie Jo Johnson led the Nighthawks with 11 points in the defensive battle.

The ‘hawks Saturday rapped a 60-33 win over Touchet with Mattie Jo Johnson hitting a league high 26 for the weekend.

The Nighthawk-Rosalia league game at Oakesdale Tuesday night was cancelled because of a leaky gym.

Pomeroy also picked up three wins for the week. They topped LWK Tuesday at Washtucna 56-32 to move their league mark to 5-3 with Torrie Koller hitting 20 points.

The Pirates Saturday out-battled Rosalia 47-42 on the Spartans’ court with a 17-4 comeback charge in the fourth quarter. Rosalia had posted a 30-25 lead over the Pirates at the half, and moved it to 38-30 through the third quarter before Pomeroy exploded for the league’s comeback of the week honor.

Kacey Halbert topped Pomeroy with 12 points. Top Spartan scorer again was Mackenzie Reddish with 18.
