St. Patrick’s fete slated at Palouse
Palouse Arts Council will sponsor the 11th annual St. Paddy’s in Palouse celebration on St. Patrick’s Day, Monday, March 17, at the Palouse Community Center.
The event will feature Irish fiddle music by Paul Smith and traditional Irish dancers plus special guests including John Elwood, members of Potatohead, Matt Zook and singers Becky Hemphill, Anneliese Zook and Leah Phillips.
A dinner will not be served this year, although there will be Irish soda bread, Cougar Gold cheese, popcorn and cookies. There will be a no-host bar with beer and wine for $2. Music will start at 6 p.m.
Admission prices at the door are $5 for those 10 and older. Kids under 10 get in free.

Historical Society
sets Wallowa tour
Whitman County Historical Society plans a three-day excursion trip May 14-16 to the Wallowa area of Oregon. Tour members will have a choice of selected vacation rental.
Tours will include the Valley Bronze factory in Joseph, Ore., the Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center which celebrates an early 20th century railroad and logging community and the Sunshine Iron collection of 35 kinds of antique restored tractors and three steam engines, all in running condition.
After dinner Wednesday, the tour group will hear an expert presentation on the Nez Perce and the 1877 war with background information on the Wallowa band. Other topic presentations will be on the Wallowa Land Trust and the Nature Conservancy.
Fee for the charter bus transportation and tours will be $194. Total cost for tour participants will depend on their choice of lodging.
First aid meet
draws 90 scouts
The annual Boy Scout first aid meet sponsored by the Chief Kamiakin District was March 5 at Lincoln Middle School. Approximately 90 scouts from 18 different scout troops participated from Whitman and Latah counties.
The event involved a 50-question written exam and five practical stations which simulated various medical emergencies.
Moscow Troop 358 finished first with Pullman Troops 460, and 445 finishing second and third.
Alpha Phi Sorority, Whitman County Fire District 12 Explorer Post, Pullman Fire Department and other scout leaders provided support for the event. Event coordinators were Mike Heston and Brad Cook.
Patchers quilt show slated
April 12-13
The 34th annual Palouse Patchers’ Quilt Guild show, Cut to the Chase, will be at the Latah County Fairground exhibit building in Moscow April 12-13 with more than 200 locally-made quilts on display.
Vendors and a Flying Geese raffle quilt will be among the features. Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children under 10. Proceeds will support Quilts of Valor and local causes.

Chapter AF met March 10 at the home of Marsha Binder. Twenty-two members responded to roll call by stating their favorite hobby.
The April 12 S.E. Reciprocity meeting at Pullman will include an officers’ training session with the state officers.
Chapter FN Pomeroy sent an invitation to their spring luncheon to April 25.
Jodi Conrad was welcomed as a new member.
Officers for 2014/2015 were elected and installed. They are Robyn Johnson, president; Teri Heilsberg, vice president; Karen Groom, recording secretary; Marsha Binder, corresponding secretary; Diane Solbrack, treasurer; Shirley Richardson, chaplain, and Linda Marler, guard.
Next meeting will be March 24 at Peace Lutheran Church with Liane Smith as hostess. Dana Carroll will give the program.
League of Women Voters
Dr. Bill Sischo of WSU’s Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health, will discuss food animal management systems at the next League of Women Voters meeting March 20, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Pullman Congregational Church on 525 Campus Ave. Free parking is available at the corner of Campus and Opal streets.
