Nighthawk girls take second in state

They made it to Spokane by ending a 15-year Sunnyside Christian streak.

Then they beat Neah Bay 56-43 to play Mount Vernon Christian in the state 1B girls semifinal.

In the waning moments of an intense fight Friday evening, the Nighthawks’ Olivia Pakootas hit a 10-foot shot with four seconds left to take them to the state final.

There they met Colton.

The championship game was the last one played at the state tournament. Tipping after 9 p.m. Saturday night, it was a time and place for something special.
