Sixth ‘Tail of the Snake’ motorcycle run set

Bikers beware - the sixth annual FastLane Tail of the Snake run is scheduled for April 19.

According to one of the organizers, Roger Zaring of Dusty, the ride is hosted by the Palouse 3N1 Ridaz which is part of the Christian Motorcyclists Association and the L/C Gospel Riders. The ride is open to all responsible riders from novice to expert, with on-road and off-road routes.

With the warming temperatures, this is a spring opener for the group.

The ride is free but if riders donate, they are eligible for prizes and funds go to Run for the Son.

Zaring said the nondenominational Christian group supports ministries to motorcycle arenas all over the country.

“We reach out to any and all motorcyclists and share the Christian gospel,” he said.

Bikers meet at the Wayback Cafe in Lewiston for a no-host breakfast at 9 a.m. Bikers leave the cafe in groups of about 10 starting at 11 a.m.

Zaring said bikers leave in groups of eight to 10 with a leader who knows the route.

Bikers will go along the old Lewiston grade, which looks like a snake’s tail, and riders also can choose to get dirty on a dual sport challenge.

Zaring said riders take a scenic route through the Palouse and Idaho panhandle, about 150 miles, and are back at the Wayback by about 3 p.m.

A variety of motorcycle models such as Harley-Davidson, BMWs, a Russian-made cycle with a side-car, Gold Wings and Yamahas participate in the ride, Zaring said.

Zaring said he started riding motorcycles when he was in junior high school, took a little break and then began again in 2006. He also said local members meet once a month.
