Young gun Weitz wins big at trap shoot

Hunter Weitz of Colfax took first overall at the Camas Prairie Trap Shoot on March 21-23 at the Walla Walla Gun Club.

Weitz, 17, a junior at Colfax High School, won two overall events and five junior events.

Aside from the overall singles title, he scored 98 out of 100 in the handicap while taking first in the junior singles, junior handicaps and junior doubles and parent-child with his father Eric Weitz.

Hunter, who has been shooting at the Endicott Gun Club for the past eight years, uses a Browning BT-99 12-gauge shotgun.

The trap shoot events are contests in downing clay pigeons from different distances.

Weitz will compete next at the Washington state trap shoot in June.
