Students plan fundraiser for Palouse Falls plaque

Pasta for Palouse Spaghetti Feed is being organized to raise money for a plaque or kiosk to be placed at Palouse Falls to honor Washtucna students who launched the effort to have the falls declared Washington’s official falls by the legislature.

The event will be Sunday, April 27, from noon to 4 p.m., at the Rimrock Grange Hall in Washtucna. Admission will be by donation which will be accepted at the door.

Gov. Jay Inslee signed the bill into law March 18 where he also met with the students at Palouse Falls State Park.

Rimrock Grange members along with other community supporters are organizing the fund raiser.

Depending upon the amount of money they raise, organizers will either ask the state parks commission to install a kiosk or some kind of plaque.

According to Washtucna teacher Janet Camp, the marker will include names of all the students, their teacher and the legislators who sponsored the bill.

“It’s really a memorial for the kids,” Camp said. “The kids said, ‘When we’re grandparents, we can bring our grandchildren there.’”

Additional donations can be sent to Rimrock Grange, Buck Jessop, 705 Spokane St., Washtucna, 99371.
