Vikings baseball team drops two to Asotin

The Garfield-Palouse/Tekoa-Oakesdale baseball team lost both games in a doubleheader at Asotin April 19, dropping their record to 5-5-1.

In the first game, the Vikings went down 9-1 as the team’s lone senior, Jesse Lopez, pitched all seven innings, giving up four earned runs.

Lopez also had one of the Vikings’ two hits with a single, while sophomore Wyatt Griner also hit a single.

In the second game, Gar-Pal/T.O. was shutout 8-0. Lopez hit a double while junior Hunter Woltering had a single for the offense.

“We’ve had some pretty good days at the plate but the quality of the pitching of Asotin is so much better,” said Vikings coach Jeremy Kimble.

On the mound, Griner pitched three and two-thirds innings to give up four earned runs. Woltering then took over, throwing the rest of the way to allow four runs, none earned.

“They just put the ball in play so well, and give us a lot of chances to make mistakes,” said Kimble.

The team has 13 players on the roster this spring, including two from Tekoa and two from Oakesdale in the one-year arrangement before Tekoa joins with Rosalia next year.
