Whitman County WSU Extension hosts two research tours in June

Whitman County WSU extension office has slated a research tour for western Whitman County for June 5 and a tour for the eastern side of the county for June 16.

The June 5 west side tour will start at 8 a.m. at the McGregor plant in LaCrosse with introductions by agent Steve Van Vleet. Tour stops will include the Bob Morasch farm at 8:30 for a report on uniform cereal variety testing by Dr. Stephen Guy; 10 a.m. at the Morasch farm for a report on stripe rust outlook and control measures by Dr. Tim Murry; 10:30 at the Mike Stubbs farm for a report on weed control in chickpeas and Brassica crops by Guy, Dr. Scott Hulbert, and Dr. Jim Davis, and lunch at 11:45 at the LaCrosse park.

The July 16 east side tour will start at 8:45 a.m. at BNP Lentils in Farmington with introductions by Van Vleet. Other stops will be 9 a.m. at the Bruce Nelson farm for control of foliar diseases and insect pests in spring wheat by Dr. Guy, Dr. Michael Pumphrey, Dr. Xianming Chen and Doug Engle and control of foliar diseases in winter wheat and management of acidic soils by Dr. Arron Carter and Engle, and at 11 a.m. at Nelsons with pea and lentil trials and controlling pea enation virus, and new varieties and market potential by Dr. Rebecca McGee, and noon lunch at the Farmington park sponsored by BNP.
