Steve Kammerzell
A celebration of the life of Steve Kammerzell, 73, will take place on May 17. The family will celebrate his life at a private residence in Palouse. He died Jan. 4, 2014, of natural causes in the Spokane hospice.
Born to Harry and Maggie Kammerzell, he was raised in Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School. He was a long- time resident of the Palouse region. At the time of his death he was living in Spokane. His early career choices took him to California, but he soon returned to the region. For several years he owned and operated a beer and wine distributorship in Moscow. He then spent a few years in Fairbanks, Alaska, before retiring to Spokane and pursuing his many hobbies, especially woodworking and toy collecting.
Surviving are his wife, Gaye Kammerzell; three children, Kris Busch, Craig Kammerzell and Sharyl Kammerzell; his grandchildren, and his brothers, Monte and Keith Kammerzell. Please contact Sharyl Kammerzell for further information: sharylk@icloud.com
Dick Timm Kriebel
A memorial service for Dick T. Kriebel, 88, retired Garfield area farmer, will be Saturday, April 26, 11 a.m. at the Garfield Christian Fellowship Church with the Rev. King Rockhill officiating and Potlatch VFW Post and an U. S. Army honor guard participating. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Hall at Garfield.
A private urn burial will follow at the Garfield Cemetery. Mr. Kriebel died at his home April 5, 2014.
Born April 17, 1925, at Palouse to Clarence and Ollie Grace Timm Kriebel, he attended the Grinnel Country School and graduated from the Garfield High School in 1943. He joined the U.S. Army July 22, 1944, and was discharged in 1945.
Mr. Kriebel farmed all his life in the Garfield- Ladow Butte area between Garfield and Palouse. He married Carleen Riedinger Jan. 19, 1955, at Boise and they were later divorced.
After his retirement from farming, Dick was well known in Garfield as Mr. Fix-it and helped many friends and family with all types of repairs.
He a member of the Garfield American Legion, the Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and the LaDow Grange which he served as master for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and horses. He was an avid fan of the Garfield–Palouse Vikings sports program.
Survivors include his companion of 30 years, Cathie May, Garfield; four sons, Richard Kriebel, Boise; Randy Kriebel, Kraig Kriebel and Ronald Kriebel, all of Garfield; one daughter, Tina Johnson (Jeff) Priest River, Idaho; one brother, Donald Kriebel (Susan), Garfield; one sister, Nina Parcel (Bill), Longview; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Keith Kriebel.
Memorials may be given to the Garfield Cemetery Beautification Fund, in care of James Storms, Box 235, Garfield, or the Garfield City Park, in care of Garfield City Hall, Garfield, 99230.
Robert E. Thaves
A memorial service for Robert E. Thaves, 87, long time resident of Tekoa, will be Saturday, May 3, at 2:30 p.m. at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. The Rev. Kathy Lee Kramer will officiate. Mr. Thaves died April 27, 2014, at Freeman.
Born April 21, 1927, at Fairfield, to William and Thelma E. (Anderson) Thaves, his family lived in Fairfield until he moved with his mother to Tekoa at the age of seven. He attended schools in Tekoa and entered the U.S. Navy Sept. 25, 1945. He served on the USS Lowry in the Marshall Islands at the end of World War II as a Fireman First Class. Discharged from the service Nov. 13, 1947, following a nine -month stay in a naval hospital in Hawaii, he returned to Tekoa and went to work as a farmer.
He married Evelyn P. Weaver Feb. 19, 1950, at Tekoa. The couple made their home in Tekoa. Bob later went to work for Everett Hay where he operated and maintained grain elevators. In 1960, he went to work for the Tekoa School District and was a custodian and maintenance man for the high school. He retired from the school district after 29 years in 1989. He continued to work as a Mr. Fix-it Man. He was a Jack-Of-All-Trades, but had a passion for woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, at the family home in Tekoa; two daughters, Diana Schneider of Yakima, and Robin (Victor) Brede of St. Maries; two sons, Randy (Marsha Bowmer) Thaves of Buckeye, Ariz., and Brett (Katherine) Thaves of Orting; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Larry Bruce of Harvard, Idaho, and Darrell Bruce of Potlatch, and a half-sister, Barbara Christensen of Rock Island.
Memorial gifts may be given to the Tekoa Ambulance Fund, Box 597, Tekoa.
Tanya L. Tiegs
Memorial services for Tanya Lynn Tiegs, 61, will be at the Palouse Federated Church Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bill Johnson and Corey Laughary officiating. Urn burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery at Palouse.
Born in Heppner, Ore., Dec. 12, 1952, to Eldon and Patricia Tucker, she died April 9, 2014, at her home overlooking Big Lake, after a 14 year battle with cancer.
She graduated with honors in 1971 from Ione High School in Ione, Ore. After high school she earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton. She met and married, her husband of 39 years, Bob, in Ione. They moved to Palouse where they had two children, Robert Douglas and Steven Christian.
Tanya enjoyed travel, dancing, reading, cooking and knitting. Tanya spent thousands of hours sitting on bleachers watching their sons compete in sports.
They moved back to Oregon in 1997 and lived in Stayton and McMinnville before moving back to Washington in 2006 to reside closer to family, including her granddaughters.
They enjoyed traveling and exploring the sites. Tanya especially enjoyed trips, one to Savannah, Ga., where she got to explore areas that she had only read about, and a trip to Ireland and Scotland where they drove, visited, learned and explored sites dating back 5,000 years. She especially enjoyed her visit to the Queen Mother’s castle in Scotland.
Tanya used her nursing degree to serve others in hospitals, nursing homes and at home-health and hospice. While working for home health and hospice of South Eastern Washington she received their award for excellence.
Tanya is survived by her husband, children and grandchildren.
The family asks that any memorial gifts be given to the American Cancer Association or the Palouse Federated Church.

Francis Holland, Jr.
Francis (Frank) W. Holland Jr., 85, former long-time resident of Colfax, died Monday, April 28, 2014, at Colonial Vista Rehab Center in Wenatchee. He was born June 22, 1928, in Clarkston to Francis W. and Mildred M. Blakely Holland. A memorial service will be at a later date and a full obituary will follow.
Luella Allen
A memorial service for Luella Allen will be held at the Endicott Cemetary on Monday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Phil Misner from the Endicott Lutheran church will conduct the ceremony.
