A Colton-Pomeroy doubleheader set for Colton April 26 was moved to Pomeroy because of weather conditions. On the Pirates’ field, with Colton (5-1 league) as the home team, the Wildcats went down in the first game 11-9 before taking the second 14-1.
With senior Jake Straughan on the mound, Colton held Pomeroy in check until the seventh inning when Oscar Morfin delivered a three-run home run. It was one of 14 hits Pomeroy put up against Straughan, including seven from eighth-graders.
In the bottom of the seventh, down two runs now, Colton put two runners on base but wasn’t able to score again.
In the second game, working with 10 walks, the Wildcats scored 13 runs in five innings to win by the mercy rule, 14-1. Straughan led Colton at the plate with three hits, including a triple while Austin Meyer had two hits with a triple as well.
In the first game, Meyer hit a home run and a single while Brady Chadwick, Dalton Patchen, Cody Meyer and Peter Schultheis delivered two singles each.
