The theme for the week of April 30 at Colfax High School was Autism Awareness.
FCCLA sponsored this project to help the students in the Jr/Sr High School recognize that everyone is different and that they, the students, need to be understanding of differences.
The week started with lighting up classrooms and hallways with blue lights.
Blue is the representative color for autism because more boys are affected with autism than girls.
On April 30, FCCLA hosted an assembly to bring awareness to the whole student body.
They presented two videos explaining “10 things I want you to know” from the perspective of an autistic boy and background on the “Light it up Blue” campaign around the world.
Speakers included Mrs. Jennifer Cooper, who spoke about her experiences with autism as a teacher, and Mrs. Julie Kincaid who spoke about being a parent of a child with autism.
Friday staff and students were invited to wear blue shirts to signify their support of Autism Awareness.
FCCLA President Heather Robinson, who promoted the Autism Awareness Week, was extremely pleased by the open and positive attitude that teachers and students had about participating in this awareness week.
