Bulldog girls win big at home meet

Colfax girls continued their domination of the NE league Tuesday when they rolled up 184 points in an all league meet at the Colfax track. The meet was the lone high school meet which will be at the Bulldog track this year.

The Colfax track surface has been fading fast over the last few seasons and work has already started to restore the surface which has sustained a breakup of the track surface and different spots around the loop.

Colfax girls Tuesday rolled up wins in 10 events with Scout Cai logging three of them. Colfax also won all three relay if the relays on the girls side of the action.

The 187 total was 57 points ahead of the 127 posted by Lind/Ritzville for second place. Other team scores for the girls were Reardan 117, Northwest Christian 85 and St. George’s 76.

The NWC boys dominated their side of the meet with 186.83 points. Colfax finished fourth with 85.l5. Other scores for the boys were Reardan 153.66, St. George’s 103 and Lind/Ritzville 78.

Cai and Leah Heiner finished one-two in the 100 sprint with 13.24 and 13.36.

Cai again cleared 5-2 in the high jump in her third straight meet and claimed the win in the pole vault, which had a limited entry, an 8-6.

Bailey Mackleit ripped a 15.6 to take the 100 hurdles.

The Bulldog relay wins were booked by Heiner, Mackleit, Parker Warwick and Olivia Mellor in the 4 X 100 at 52.1, Taylor Larsen, Mackleit, Warwick and Sarah Kraut in the 4 X 200 at 1:50.6 and Larsen, Mellor, Kraut and Heiner in the 4 X 400 with a 4:25.09

Senior Nicole Sheer won the shot put at 34-08 and again claimed the discus with at 98-4 which was more than six feet farther than the number-two launch by Reardan’s Keiton Klein.

Mellor added wins in the long jump with a 14-5, more than two feet beyond the 12-00.5 by Samantha Asmussen of Lind/Ritzville.

Mellor also cleared 32-6 to win the triple.

On the boys side Austin Corean clocked a 11.52 to win the 100 sprint by a tenth of a second over Ryan Whitmore. The Bronco senior came back to win both hurdle events in what will be his last stop at Colfax.

The Colfax 4 x 100 relay team of Dylan Hall, Bo Claassen, Cody Fulfs and Corean won with a 45.87, almost a second ahead of number-two Reardan.

Josh Brown topped 28 entrants in the discus with a 152-10 which was 11 feet ahead of the number-two mark set by Jerry Sander of NWC.

Sam Dailey topped a three-entry field in the pole vault with an 11-6, and Fulfs planted a 36-2.25 in the triple jump for the other Colfax win on the boys side.

Tuesday’s home win by the girls followed a second place finish last Friday at Riverside’s Twilight Invitational at Chattaroy. The Bulldogs marked up 105 points in the meet which was won by Lakeside at 125.75.

The Twilight meet brought in 17 schools with many of them from the single A and double A divisions.

Colfax boys placed seventh with a 38.75 behind the 124.5 posted by Deer Park.

Scout Cai and Olivia Pakootas of Tekoa again dueled in the high jump with Pakootas taking the win on an earlier attempt. The order was reversed last Tuesday at Lakeside when Cai had the win an earliest attempt.

The 4 X 200 team clocked a win at 1:49.85, their top mark of the season, with Mackleit, Larsen, Warwick and Kraut.

The girls 4 X 100 relay team booked a .5 second win over Lakeside for a win at 51.22 with Alexie Smith subbing for Mellor who was unable to attend the meet.

Nicole Sheer hit a 36-4.5 for a win in the shot put by almost three feet.

Corean won the 100 in the Twilight with a 11.42, the same clocking he posted here Tuesday.

Tekoa-Oakesdale/ Garfield Palouse girls rolled up 20.5 points at Chattaroy to finish 13th.

Rosalia boys booked 15 points in the big meet to finish 14th.
