Rose garden account set up at Palouse bank

An account has been set up at AmericanWest Bank for donations for the continued maintenance of the five memorial rose gardens in Palouse.

The money will go to pay for items such as fertilizer, mulch, pesticide and occasional replacement roses and dedication plaques.

Previously, the money for maintenance and continued care came from fees which people paid for roses and memorial plaques.

“But we’ve been doing this for a long time, and we’re not adding any new garden,” said Mary Estes, one of the volunteers who tends the roses each Monday morning.

The gardens are located on Whitman Street near the police station, at the post office and at Heritage Park next to the grocery store.

As of Monday, the bank account at AmericanWest had been open for four days and Estes reported a good response.
