P.E.O.

Chapter AF met May 27 at the home of Sherry Cox, hostess. Fifteen members responded to roll call by giving their father’s first name. The P.E.O. Scholarship was awarded to Hollyanna Hahn at the awards night at the high school.

Connie McBride’s program featured Greg Aune, son of John and Jane Aune of Colfax. Now a pediatric oncologist in Texas, he battled cancer when he was raised in Colfax.

Last Thursday, June 5, 17 members met at the Almota Inn, Boyer Park and Marina, to hear Robyn Johnson’s report of the state convention May 30-June 1 at Wenatchee.

The group will meet again Sept 22.

Earns AAUW award

Rachel Nelson, daughter of Mark and Debra Nelson of Palouse, has been recognized for her outstanding achievements in mathematics and science by the American Association of University Women’s Scholar Recognition Program.

She received a monetary award from the May meeting of the Garfield-Palouse branch, which includes members from Oakesdale, and later received a certificate of merit from the state AAUW. A senior at Garfield-Palouse High School in the fall, she has excelled in mathematics and science and has been active in National Honor Society, Knowledge Bowl, 4H and she will attend Evergreen Girls State this month.

She has been a volunteer for Family Promise of the Palouse, Palouse Community Library and Palouse Area Therapeutic Horsemanship.

Rachel plans to study psychology and political science in college.

Munck, Penelope Cora, was born May 1, 2014, at seven pounds, four ounces, to MacKenzie and Jason Munck of Oakton, Vir. Maternal grandparents are Harold and Patti Wilkinson of Elberton. Paternal grandparents are Harry and Diana Munck of Ranson, Vir. The baby joins brothers Emerson, 8, Carter, 6, and Eli, 3.

Shelly and Darrel Goertzer, Palouse. Maternal grandparents are Penny and Dale Schaefer, Clarkston, and Rob and Renee Adkins, Moscow.

Gleason, Logan Maxwell, born June 5 at eight pounds, eight ounces, to Jen and Rob Gleason, Moscow. Paternal grandparents are Wayne Gleason, Moscow, and Gayle Gleason, Lewiston. Maternal grandparents are David and Jean Duke, Moscow. Baby joins sister Kyla, 9, and brothers Wyatt, 7, and Caleb, 2.

UI art gallery exhibit

The Work of Sara Joyce will be on display at the University of Idaho Prichard Art Gallery from June 13 to Aug. 2. A reception will be held Friday, June 13, from 5 to 10 p.m. at the gallery.

Sara Joyce lived in Idaho most of her adult life. Creativity permeated Sara’s life. It found expression in the clothes and home furnishings she made, the gardens and studios she built and in the journals, drawings, paintings, ceramics and fabric sculptures she created. This exhibit is an introduction to the prolific range of the artist’s creative practice.

This exhibition is sponsored by the University of Idaho Office of the Provost, the College of Art & Architecture, sudents of the University of Idaho and the business and individual Friends of the Pritchard Art Gallery.

The Pritchard Art Gallery is located in downtown Moscow.
