No event scheduled for 2014: Farmington Harvest Festival will owe state, federal taxes

A question about donations to the Town of Farmington from the 2012 and 2013 Farmington Harvest Festival has led to a problem regarding state and federal taxes.

Begun two years ago by a committee of residents to hold an event and donate its proceeds for town improvements after several failed park levies, the Farmington Harvest Festival gave $5,481 to the city in 2012. The lesser proceeds of 2013 were put in an account building toward a donation for a water feature for the town’s park.
