Palouse RV Park receipts on track

The Palouse RV Park is seeing increased business in its sixth year of operation.

In a two-year period, the park increased its receipts from $1,625 for the first five months of 2012 to $3,995 in the same January - May span this year.

High mark for a full year was posted in 2012 when the RV park had annual receipts of $9,460, but the pace set to date for 2014 puts it on track to bump that mark.

“The word is getting out,” said Palouse Mayor Michael Echanove. “If a person spends a night or two, and they’re happy, chances are they’ll come back.”

For $25 per night, occupants get water, sewer and power hookups, Wi-Fi and use of the city swim pool across the street (which asks for donations). Visitors can get a seventh day free after staying for six days.

The park opened in the summer of 2009. The city bought the land earlier from the Palouse River & Coulee City Railroad.

The grounds are taken care of by the town’s public works department with rentals and reservations handled by city hall.

Deputy City Clerk Ann Thompson said the park is at capacity for about 10 weekends per year, many of which center on WSU events, such as home football games, graduation and Mom’s and Dad’s weekends.

“I’ve seen some RVs in there that are probably worth more than my house,” Echanove said.

The park’s first full year in operation, 2010, brought in $6,375.

The park opened during 2009.
