County approves six-year transportation improvement plan

Whitman County commissioners Monday approved the six-year Transportation Improvement Program which was presented by Public Works Director Mark Storey.

The plan, which outlines projects from 2015 to 2020, includes work this year on countywide overlays, the Hatley Bridge, Run-Off-Road and intersection safety project, turn lane and signage and Odonnell Road work.

During the next five years, projects include countywide overlays, Colfax Airport Road work at a cost of $5,000, a $700,000 county safety project, Almota Road $4 million project and Farmington Road $1 million project in 2016.

For 2017, projects with estimated costs include $750,000 Edmondson Bridge, Sand Road for $920,000, Warner Road at $1.7 million and countywide overlays at $1 million.

In 2018, projects include County Club Road and Almota Road for a total of about $7 million.

In 2019, the Pullman Airport Road and Hume Road are listed as projects with a total cost of about $7 million.

In 2020, projects on the Green Hollow Road with a cost of more than $3 million are scheduled.

Each year the schedule changes according to priorities and funding, Storey said.

Commissioners also approved two road name change corrections: the “Bill Wilson” Road to the Bill Willson Road and the “Musgrove” Road to Musgrave Road.
