FSA seeks candidates for county committee

Whitman County FSA Committee seeks candidates for the local County Committee election. The nomination period runs through Aug. 1, and the election will be in December.

Each COC member is elected as a representative for their local administrative area. All agricultural producers are encouraged to seek a nomination to be a part of the FSA Committee.

In order to be eligible, nominees must live in the the area currently up for election. Each elected member has a three-year term and the terms are staggered so one position is up for election each year.

Area two is up for election this year. The area consists of the central third of Whitman County, running north and south, which includes Dusty, Almota, Colfax, Steptoe, Oakesdale, and Rosalia. Greg Hall is the current committee member from this area and has served on the committee for nine years, which is the limit for consecutive terms, according to Tory Bye, county executive director. The COC meets approximately eight times per year, and members are paid an hourly wage.
