Fire doused at JES

Fire crews doused a fire which ignited Friday evening in a janitor’s utility room at Jennings Elementary School. Smoke from the fire triggered an automatic alarm system which led an alarm company to call the fire station at 7:01 p.m.

Fire Chief Clark Capwell said the fire apparently started in a laundry bag which was located in the custodian’s room. He said the fire door for the room limited oxygen supply to the fire and the concrete floor beneath the bag limited fuel supply. Damage in the room was minimal with some burn damage to the adjoining wall.
