County Assessor Joe Reynolds garnered 59.14 percent of the votes in the closest race for the Whitman County Primary election. The first count Tuesday night totaled 5,412 ballots for a 26.8 percent turnout.
Reynolds had 2,640 votes and challenger Jim Hawkes of Pullman, an appraiser in the assessor’s office, totaled 1,824.
In the other contested county race Sheriff Brett Myers had more than 82 percent of the votes at 4,075 to lead Adam Assenberg of Colfax who had 841 votes.
