St. John/Endicott and Pullman volleyball teams will be in Colfax to kickoff the season with a mini-jamboree early on fair Saturday. The jamboree will include jayvee and C-squad teams.
Match schedule for the jamboree will have Colfax and the SJE Eagles playing at 8 a.m in the Colfax High School gym followed by the Colfax-Pullman match at 9:30 a.m. Last match will feature SJE vs. Pullman. Junior varsity and C-squad matches will be played at Jennings in the same order. Coach Sue Doering reported the Bulldog team is making progress before the start of the season. A lot of the focus in early practices has been on passing, a skill the Bullodogs are expected to need this season as they work to move the ball around more on offense. “Things are shaping up well. I think we’re going to have a lot of depth which will help during the season,” Coach Doering commented.
Doering this week has named her varsity players. Back on varsity this year will be Kindra Kneale, Kori Goodwin and Amara Huber, seniors; Scout Cai, Morgan Lord, Olivia Mellor, and Kateyln Scholz, juniors. Moving up to the varsity from last year’s jayvees will be Ashtyn Aune, Kylie Gronning, and Sidney Sheer, juniors, and Taylor Garcia, sophomore. Also making the varsity as a freshman will be Carmen Gfeller, a freshman.
Shawna Kneale returns as junior varsity coach, and Casey Zander, CHS math teacher, will be the freshman coach. She took the slot vacated by Colfax net grad Maggee Cochran who plans to continue college studies. Colfax starts the regular season with matches on the road against two GSL teams. They will be at Mt. Spokane Sept. 12 and Gonzaga Prep Sept. 18. They will play at the Okanogan tourney Sept. 20 and then mark their home opener against Genesee Sept. 23. First league match will be Sept. 27 against Kettle Falls, one of the teams entering the league this year from the A division.
Doering looks for Davenport, Northwest Christian, and Reardan to be the power teams in the league race with possibly a few surprises along the way.
