Southeast 1B football extended into league play this week with Colton and Garfield-Palouse remaining unbeaten.
The Vikings will meet Touchet Friday in Palouse for what promises to be a major test.
Colton 62, LaCrosse-Washtucna 0
A 56-yard touchdown pass from Carter Dahmen to Lane Moore began the scoring last Friday afternoon in Colton.
The Wildcats next drive began on LaCrosse-Washtucna’s 2-yard line after a high snap on a punt. Colton scored quickly on a two-yard run from Tristan Blewitt and the trend was set.
The Wildcats scored 32 points in the second quarter.
Dahmen totaled 218 passing yards in the game with 132 on the ground. Moore led Wildcat receivers with three touchdowns.
Colton (3-0, 1-0 in league) plays at Sunnyside Christian Today.
Gar-Pal 68, Dayton 26
The Vikings picked up a strong victory against Dayton last Friday, leading to this week’s Homecoming showdown with Touchet (2-0).
Playing at Dayton, Garfield-Palouse gave up the first two touchdowns to trail 14-0 before taking over in the second half.
The Vikings’ Cole Sanderson carried the ball 24 times for 189 yards while Tyler Thurman caught seven passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns.
Quarterback Hunter Woltering went nine for 14 for 180 yards on the night. He didn’t throw a pass in the second half.
"I was pretty happy with our performance," said coach Will Woltering.
On defense for Gar-Pal, Michael Winslow and Thurman both had interceptions.
The Vikings now prepare to face Touchet, who lost in the state championship game last year. "They don’t change very much from year to year," said Woltering. "We’ll know how good we are after this weekend, for sure."
Liberty Christian 58, St. John-Endicott 30
The Eagles of S.J.E. took on Liberty Christian at home last Friday and came up with an inspiring performance behind a new starting quarterback.
"They came off the field feeling pretty good about their performance," said Eagles coach Steve Selk of his team.
Behind center was junior Tyler Anderson, who impressed Selk as a backup against Troy, Idaho the week before. Original starter Jimmy Hollingshead moved to running back.
"It worked out really well," Selk said, indicating he will stay with the arrangement. "I think we’re gonna kind of roll with this."
The Eagles trailed 28-14 at halftime as turnovers and a couple high snaps snuffed out opportunities.
"We had a few drive-killers that way," Selk said. "But we were moving the ball on them really well."
Anderson threw two touchdown passes in the game to Adam Blakeley while Hollingshead ran for a 20-yard touchdown and got an interception.
Wilson Lundberg also scored for St. John-Endicott, on a 60-yard run.
The Eagles will play next at Pomeroy Friday night.
(2B) Lind-Ritzville-Sprague 63, Tekoa-Rosalia 0
The Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves took on the 2B defending state champions last Friday and went down 63-0.
In the process, they lost several players to injury.
Senior outside linebacker and offensive guard Lucas Engel went out with a broken fibula and torn ligament, while starting center Alex Straub, a junior, finished the game but then had surgery on a broken finger.
Junior receiver Cooper Angelo went out on a 60-yard pass play late in the fourth quarter. Stopped at the three-yard line, trying to get into the endzone, he twisted his knee.
"We’ve got a bunch of young kids," said coach Bob Bucsko. "We’ve been struggling anyway but that makes it worse. But we’re staying positive, looking to build on every game. "
The team played Lind-Ritzville-Sprague without running back Cody Thornton, who was still out with a leg injury from the Colfax game the week before. He was back at practice this week.
Standout running back/linebacker Eli Richardson remains out after suffering a concussion in week one.
Busco said he may be back this week, as the team heads to Reardan Friday night.
The Timberwolves will then play at home vs. Kettle Falls Oct. 3.
