Pomeroy wins put lock on SE volleyball race

With two more league rounds on the books, Pomeroy's Pirates closed in on the top spot in the SE league this week with two more match wins, both booked on three-game sweeps.

The Pirates are now 11-1 in the league race and out of range of the pursuit team.

Tuesday they dropped the visiting LWK Tigercats 25-14 25-6 and 25-13 with Skylar Smith hitting seven kills. Ireland Mayfield put up 27 assists.

Oakesdale Tuesday stopped the Eagles in a four-game marathon win 25-22 32-34 25-17 and 25 21. Jacey Johnson led the Nighthawks with 24 kills and four blocks. Lindsey Lindgren hit six aces against the Eagles.

Rachel Gfeller hit 22 kills in the long match and Aja Schmick and Abby Glorfield each had 24 digs for the visiting SJE team.

Colton Tuesday moved their mark to 8-4 with a 25-9 25-15 25-10 win over Liberty Christian. Savannah Chadwick had six kills for the Wildcats and Winnie Schultheis put up 14 assists.

Pomeroy in the /Thursday round posted to strong three-game win over the SJE Eagles at St. John to revenge their lone loss of the season.

The Pirates, who lost a five game thriller to the Eagles in the first round, had 11 kills from Savannah Ruark and 27 assists from Ireland Mayfield in the Thursday sweep. Kasey Halbert was credited with 13 digs.

Colton Thursday boosted their record to 7-4 with a three-gamer over Garfield/Palouse. The Wildcats posted a 25-15 win the first game, but the Vikings played it tougher as the match advanced.

Line score for the Colton win was 25-15 25-23 and 26-24. Zoe Moser hit 14 kills and five aces at the Vikings and Winnie Schultheis was credited with 16 assists Holly Brown with eight kills for the Vikings. Katie Holbrook had 21 assists, and Cassidy Clarkson booked five blocks.

Oakesdale defeated Liberty Christian in a sweep at Oakesdale Thursday, 25-13 25-6 and 25-12. Logan Reed hit eight kills against the Patriots, and Madison Shrope had 15 assists. Kaela Fisch, Reed, and Jacey Johnson each hit three aces.

LaCrosse /Washtucna/Kahlotus and Touchet posted a 2-2 game tally in their Thursday match at Touchet with the Tigercats taking the win a 15-5 crunch in the fifth game. That came after the Tigercats, down 1-2, took game four to keep the match alive.

Cierra McKeown rapped 25 kills for the hosts. Gail Harder had eight kills for LWK, and Nicole Harder was credited with 14 assists. Jazzmyn Gordon was credited with 26 digs in the long match.
