Every Friday, LaCrosse third and fourth graders have been working with the seventh and eighth graders to study economics. The group is collaborating to start a book publishing company where the students will set up a business structure, survey their target market, write the stories and publish their book.
Last Friday, the group had a special guest speaker come to assist them with their start-up business. Ryan Hamilton, the manager of the Colfax and LaCrosse Umpqua Bank branches, spoke to the students about everything they would need to have prepared before they could ask the bank for a loan to start their business.
Accompanying Hamilton was Mish Stanely, an employee at the LaCrosse Umpqua branch. He helped them understand how to structure their business, write a mission statement, plan for spending and profits and pick a name.
