A line of trucks made a loop of the Palouse Empire Fairground Monday afternoon to pay tribute to Vernon D. Henning, 80, retired Colfax area farmer and trucker who died Oct. 28 in Spokane. The funeral for Mr. Henning was Monday afternoon at the Palouse Empire Fair’s Community Building.
Mr. Henning, during his life, enjoyed driving, as well as collecting and trading trucks and tractors. A Henning Trucking rig, with a mounted U.S. Flag, headed Monday’s convoy.
The line of trucks formed up at the Colfax Airport and departed for the fairground after the conclusion of services. A total of 27 trucks were in the lineup. The convoy went to Highway 26, turned right and headed eastbound along the fairgrounds where people who had been at Mr. Henning’s service waved from the grounds.
Many of the truck drivers attended the service and were shuttled to the airport to take part in the tribute.
The trucks looped around the fairground and then parked in the front row of the lot. The drivers joined a post-funeral reception in the Community Building.
