Robertson, Bailey, Kolb qualify for State B race

St. John-Endicott runners Shania Bailey, Zoe Robertson and Kaleb Kolb Saturday qualified for the state B championship race which will be on the Sun Willows Golf course in Pasco Saturday.

Bailey, a senior, placed 10th in the regional run at Big Cross last Saturday with a 20:19 time, and Robertson, a sophomore who attends school at Oakesdale but competes with the Eagles, placed 12th with a time of 20:45.

The two finishes were behind the winning time posted by Tracy Melville of Lind/Ritzville/Sprague with an 18:09.

The first 15 girls in the field of 58 runners made the cut for the state run along with members of the top team.

St. George’s Madison Ward and Marika Morelan followed Melville across the finish line to lead a 36-point team win posted by the Dragons. Lucy Eggelston of Asotin, who has dominated the SE runs, placed fourth with a 19:20. Emily Adams of Waitsburg / Prescott, the number-two finisher out of the SE, placed ninth with a 20:12, just seven seconds ahead of Bailey.

Alicia Knee of Colfax placed 49th with a 25:08, and Melissa Groom of Tekoa/Rosalia was 10 seconds back of Knee to place 50th.

Kolb qualified at 29th in the boys race with a clocking of 18;12. Coach Andrea Miller said Kolb, a senior, pulled out all the stops to make the cut and bumped his be time by more than a minute. His prio PR was a 19:38.

The girls all B state run at Sun Willows Saturday will start at 10 a.m., and the boys B race will start at 11:30.

The top 30 boys made the cut for the all-B run.

Chandler Teigen of Asotin bagged win in the boys race for the day’s top SE finish with a 15:50 time.

Teigen edged Jack Ammons of NWC, , top NE entrant, by 13 seconds in a race which had 97 runners from the two districts,.

The NWC runners took the team title with a 33 score and five finishers in the top 10. Asotin placed second at 81, and St. George’s placed third at 107.

Also finishing for the Eagles were Tanner Dingman, 57th at 19:49, Parker Perry, 58th at 19:56, and Jacob Blakesley 84th at 22:06.

Tim Cornelius led Colfax finishers with a 44th at 19:05. Other Bulldogs wrapping up their XC seasons were Chase Baerlocher, 59th at 19:57, Jaydon Soncarty, 76th at 21:12, and Doug Willson, 81st at 21:54.

Dillon Jacobs of Tekoa/Rosalia placed 56th at 19:40.
